How to Fight for Amendments to Bill 6

Yesterday, I posted about the intrusive, bureaucratic nature of Bill 6, a bill which the provincial NDP feel is necessary- even though they don’t know why. Today, I want to encourage everyone who reads this, no matter how you feel about the bill, to exercise their democratic rights and tell their Member of the Legislative Assembly what their thoughts are about Bill 6 (and while you’re doing that, throw in your comment on the Carbon Tax initiative as well).

This link lists, alphabetically, the names and emails of every MLA in Alberta. Even if your MLA is NDP (ESPECIALLY if your MLA is a member of the NDP), please send them something stating the importance of making amendments for farms and ranches in Bill 6.

Members of the Legislative Assembly Contacts

Additionally, I would encourage you to contact the Premier, Rachel Notley, with the same concerns:

premier@gov.ab.ca

Finally, this survey has been posted to the Alberta Government website. Please take 20 minutes of your day and fill it out to tell the MLA’s that Bill 6 is not appropriate as it is written and it must be amended.

Government Survey

When writing emails or making calls, be sure to have talking points about what you do and do not like about Bill 6. Perhaps, if enough of us participate and contact our MLA’s, we may be able to make the appropriate amendments to protect the privacy and autonomy of farming and ranching families all across the province. Please, ensure your children can learn how to move cattle, drive tractor, and combine before they need to take over the farm. Educating the next generation of farmers is essential to the perpetuity of farming and ranching in Alberta.

PLEASE TELL THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT TO STAY OUT OF OUR FAMILIES!

I agree! This bill must be stopped. We as farmers don’t need our lifestyle interfered with by big government that has no concern nor knowledge of the small farmer. STOP BILL 6

Just stay out of the business of BUSINESS, and start with the family farms. This will force many into bankruptsy, and endange a way of life. Foolish and unnecessary safety procedures have handcuffed most industry to the point of collapse already. Agriculture cannot raise their prices to help absorb the added cost as most industries have.

I agree. This will end a family ranch or farm. We have 5 generations on our ranch and you want to take it away!! Why can’t you listen to the farmers and ranchers that know what they are doing? I thought this is what the NDP govt promised!! To listen to what the people want. One more broken promise. The list is getting longer!!

This bill will destroy the way of life on a family farm, where responsible adults learnt responsibility from childhood. Work ethics are formed strong from the very beginning. The best harvest memories for generations are of riding in the tractors, combines, trucks with dad, mom, or a grandparent, aunt or uncle. This legislation will bankrupt the small family farm very quickly.

Please please make sure you are also commenting to your MLA’s, sign petitions or whatever, just don’t vent here. The politicians need to hear what we have to say.

The family farm is what made this country what it is today. And saying all the other provinces have it is not quite true. All the other provinces have opt out provisions. Stay in the city and leave us farm folk alone

It seems strange to me that they want imput from farmers AFTER a bill has already been drafted. If they want an effective, democratic, decision making process wouldn’t it make more sense to do research and opinion polls before even tabling a bill?

The farming community big and small work hard enough respecting rules and regulations let alone the countless hours and hard work to make a living and produce for society. Keep the passion in farming not politics..

Maybe the NDP should have a look at the auction sites of all the complete herd dispersals and farm auction coming up !!!
Wake the hell up !!! The farmers are fading away , who the f&$k is going to feed the world ? Sure is not you fellows on parliament hill ,scary thought ain’t it . The farmers go through enough shit in the year , between the weather , BSE, rising expensives , NEW regulation and all the other shit that’s going on do you really think that is an EASY occupation ?
Hell why don’t you give it a try !!! There are third or fourth generation farms that are haven a tough time. So silly that all the city folks seem to have all the answers when it comes to farming but are scared to get alittle shit on there boots !! Hope all you farmers and ranchers come together on this , we can’t let this happen. Please take the time and make the trip to town if needed I’m sure there will some kind of a rally to support , I’m in!!! It’s my family’s future to .

I am amazed at the decision to introduce Bill 6, even thought you have no understanding of farming or farming practices. For myself and the rest of us in this industry, your proposed bill will not work and will drive even more of us into the ground. My work day starts at 6am and often does not end until after supper on busy days. Animals need to be fed, systems checked and they don’t care about your imposed 8 hour days. The NDP really don’t have a clue about farm life and that is evident in your bill 6. NO TO THIS BILL

Tell all the farmers and ranchers to keep up the pressure on the Alta. govt. both on Bill 6 and the Carbon tax. The Premier looks as if she is breaking down and we need to help her do that before she ruins this entire province!!!
